I know there is lot's of banter with regards to the Hanna Checkers.
I'm curious as to what @Randy Holmes-Farley thinks of colorimetric vs titration testing.

If you had to choose only one method to run your reef tank - which would you choose?

I would chose different things for different parameters.

I'm not a fan of the Hanna calcium checker, and would probably use Salifert.

For phosphate, I'd use the Hanna ULR phosphate checker.

For alkalinity, I'd use a DIY titration.

For many other things, I would not test often enough to warrant buying a test, but rather rely on a quality name in ICP testing (potassium, magnesium, trace elements, minor elements, etc.)

I'm not sure what I would use to test nitrate.

Is there such a thing as “quality name in ICP” when none of the UCP businesses will tells us about the accuracy and precision of their test method?

I have some I trust more than others. lol

Triton gives quite a bit of data here, though it is likely outdated as it was posted in 2016:

Thanks for the link. You shared this link once before and I noted that the Hanna phosphate Checker competes well in accuracy and precision with Triton’s ICP phosphorous analysis (comparable only if the analyte is PO4, of course).

I guess we are going to need a Randy unit for analytical chemistry trustworthiness from 1 RHF = +/- 1% of actual value all the way to 10 RHF = +/- whatever dude. You will have to create a table for us listing vendors and test kits and giving the number of RHF’s for each. Looking forwards to this!
