Colt coral experience

Hello,
Does anyone here have Colt coral experience? I just bought one. How fast did it grow and how long did it take to open back up after being introduced?

Anyway, yes I've kept many in the past but around the last 10 years they've sort of disappeared and become very hard to find for some reason. They are very easy to care for like most leather corals. Their stocks grow quite thick and can handle quite a bit of flow and light but be mindful of where you put it because it will block a lot of flow and take up a lot of room. They do shed like toadstools from time to time so flow is important.

No I got it free from my LFS for my 16th birthday. Its in a spot with little flow.. Should I change that? How long until it begins to melt.

The one I got is at least an inch if not half an inch. Very very small.

Yeah I'd give it medium flow, you'll know if it starts to melt, it looks bad and can make your water cloudy. Do you have a photo of it?

Im at school now. I will try to get a photo when I'm home. The only problem is that its glued. I know I glued a softie but I did it in a safe way so it doesn't kill the foot. What should I do?

Is it on a frag plug? Because gluing the foot directly to the rock will probably not work, it'll likely slime up it's foot and come loose. Before frag plugs were common we would rubber band it's foot to a piece of rock until it attached itself.

I got a colt coral as my first coral in my first tank decades ago. It grew well and was a fine addition. It was 175 w under 10,000 k mh and in what today would be considered medium/low flow.

If it's detached itself, try what I had suggested and rubber band it's foot to rubble rock. I just haven't had much luck gluing soft corals. Once it's got it's foot securely attached to something it should do fine.

I could try. But the foot isn't even an inch thick/long whatever it is so small.

Shouldn't be an issue, let us know how it goes and if you can snap a photo when you're home.

Will do. I will try to reposition today. But I might as well get a small power head to put on the backwall on that side.

How long should I wait for it to open up fully. Do you think I should wait to move it until it opens so I can see if its getting any flow? The leather below it sometimes gets a good flow. I am pretty sure there's an undercurrent.

Leathers usually take me a couple days to fully open up. You can't go wrong with waiting to see, it'll just be more stressful if you touch it now of course if it's detached itself from the glue you don't really have a choice but to move/secure it.
