quick question. When connecting hydros launch to xp8 do I connect with a command bus cable(power and data) or a data only cable. A bit confusing as they both require their own power supply. Also am adding a we2 and confused about where terminator plugs are required.

Thanks

If it is less than a 14ft cable use the normal data power cable. Both controllers are power givers but since the power is built into the controller the supply has isolation between the supply and bus cable. The only power supply that does not have isolation is the one that connects directly to the command bus. Do not use one of those with any other source of power unless there is a data only cable between it and the other sources of power. If you are creating a collective you will also need a couple of terminators.

A terminator is required for the last device on the chain.

I would get 2 terminators since that is all you will need for a single collective. Place them on each end of the chain.

New to this forum and also setting up my first saltwater tank and my first post. To summarize what @n2585722 said, to create a collective with XP8 + Launch, you need

- XP8 power cable & Launch power cable (since the power is built into the controller the supply has isolation between the supply and bus cable)

- Data + power cable to connect command bus

- 2 terminators

Would this be correct?
Also can I work with only one terminator?

That should work. You can usually get by with just one terminator on a small collective, but considering their cost I would go ahead and get both when ordering.
