Consistent water level with a skimmer is very important. I just really realized this yesterday and today. Up untill a month ago I have always had HOB skimmers because I have never had a tank with a sump. Well when I upgraded I got a sump. Then I got a decent used skimmer off a friend. Well I put the skimmer in my sump. Well with the skimmer, return pump, and heater there was no room for baffles. Well I could never get my skimmer to work right because with evaporation the sump never stayed the right level. Well I fixed that if you looks at this thread. https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/eq...on/57583-had-make-work-ghetto-filtration.html . So in two days my skimmer has now pulled more junk then it did in a week. Plus it is alot darker. Before it was green now it is black. Smells 100% worse. Is it weird to be happy that it smells so bad. Guess that is somethig only we would understand. Those outsiders don't get it. But back to what I was saying. Having a constant water level where your skimmer is makes a HUGE!!!! difference.
This is two days worth of skimate now.
