Contemplating a Saltwater Aquarium

I'm new to saltwater aquariums, and it will be 3-4 months before I actually set up a saltwater tank.

I'm an older fellow. I started keeping fish over 40 years ago, then I took a 20-year break, and now I'm back into the hobby. I have a number of freshwater tanks. This will be my first saltwater tank.

I Scuba dived for many years in various spots around the world, including Okinawa, Panama, Hawaii, and Mexico. I doubt I'll be diving much going forward (maybe an occasional trip), and I miss the creatures and coral I used to see almost daily.

I've been researching saltwater setups and maintenance, and will continue to do so as I get nearer to setting up my tank. I'm remodeling a room as a fish room. It will contain some of my freshwater tanks, my saltwater tank, and displays of seashells I've collected over the years.

I'm looking forward to interacting with and learning from forum members.

I miss diving too. It was a natural for me , and did photography. Take your time explore the Articles section if you want I have a fishless method available to post when you are ready. Any real problems post # reef squad with your explanation. They are a group of well informed people There are quite a few professional people on the site take it all as a wealth of information and like a smorgasbord . A vender called Bulk Reef Supply has some good videos

Also don't do what I did . Do this buy a predrilled tank for a sump or drill your own . That being said build or buy a sump and make sure the stand you buy or build suites it.

Welcome! Trust me when I say saltwater sounds overwhelming but it’s not much different than freshwater (except the salty part). You’ll be jumping into it in no time. How big are you thinking!

Also don't do what I did . Do this buy a predrilled tank for a sump or drill your own . That being said build or buy a sump and make sure the stand you buy or build suites it.

I'm currently planning on a larger tank, 100-or-so-gallons, for my saltwater journey. I've been looking at either a pre-built system like Reefer Max 625 G3 or starting with something from CustomAquariums.

I have a 90-Gallon freshwater tank from CustomAquariums, and I like their build quality and Sump design. Going this route, I'd have to add an ATO system and probably swap out the filter socks for an automatic filter roller, etc.

So far, I'm leaning toward a pre-configured Reefer system. But ordering is still a ways off, so I'll keep researching, reading threads, and watching YouTube videos. I've been watching quite a few of the beginner BRStv videos. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

My wife loves the fish, as long as I do most of the work keeping the aquariums . She has already given me the thumbs up for the fish room remodel and the new Saltwater tank, so I'm good to go
