Control my APEX?

Was just thinking that someone who is super smart on the APEX should offer a service. Have the individual tell you what they want, they give you there information to log in, make the changes and boom.. You just helped someone out!

Anyone ever tried this?

Randy, I think it is anyway over at BRS, does a video series on the Neptune apex (this week was auto water changes or manual.

There are a few that already do this as part of their system setup/build service.

A couple different forums I know have Q&A.

Neptunes forums are very helpful.

I am not, I was just reading a post a few down about there system and them not knowing what to do. It would be nice tho to have someone look over there stuff just to double check it. I just have my stuff set up and nothing fancy yet.

I have been asked several times to provide paid consulting engagements on Apex setups. There are a couple of reasons I don't take up these offers:

1. There are so many variables on how people set up their equipment, and without being there in person to see how things are connected, the potential to make an assumption and get something wrong is high, in particular with people who are new to reefing.

2. If something goes wrong, the liability and risk of someone taking legal action due to the high cost of lost corals and home damage is not worth it.

I agree with @Alchameth above (though the metaphor may have been a bit off...) that it's better to teach someone how to use the Apex than to set it up for them. For example, if something goes wrong in the middle of the night, the Apex owner should be knowledgeable enough to figure it out without outside help.

I spent over 30 years doing IT support, and now that I'm retired, reefing is my new hobby. I happened to take a liking to the Apex enough that I spend every day here on Reef2Reef (where I've written many Apex tutorials), the Neptune Community Forums, and the Apex Facebook Group answering questions from Apex users around the world. I do this for fun and out of generosity. But taking on paid engagements would take the fun out of it and make me worry about being responsible if something fails.

I had a guy help me set up mine. He lives many miles away and helps others across the country. Simply give him access and he programs it all. I had him show me most things so I could do it myself but it made the set up so much easier having a pro set it up. I still ask him to help do things from time to time. He does it because he loves helping and doesn’t charge much.

@SuncrestReef you bring up valid points for sure, stuff I did not think of. Sometimes I forget about the world we live in.

I read your tutorials, as a matter of fact I am reading them again as we speak. My problem is I dont get it the 1st time, most of the time not the 2nd time either so I hate to keep asking the same question. But you are 100 percent correct, it would be best to learn the functions of the equipment that has been purchased, which honestly is the fun part of the hobby for me. But some times it just does not stick!

I am not ready to hand over my info and let someone else do all the work, there is no fun in that for me. I want to learn, and I will! It will just take me a bit longer is all.

Thank you for the tutorials, it is information that one can not put a price tag on.
