Is there a free swimming stage of copepods where they just stay in the water column. I see them on my glass alot but had something that looked like a big pods drifting around the tank last night when the lights went out jw what it could be. They were probably about the size of mosquito larvae if that helps for size reference.

Probably isopods or amphipods. They’re bigger and look more like insects.

Found a video on YouTube of spawning mysid shrimp. I think that may have been what was happening.
