It is written in copper power product leaflet that Therapeutic Range for Preventive: 1.5 ppm of Copper Level (Copper power). I would like to use this dose as prophylactic measure in my quarantine tank. However, in most places people suggest 2-2.5 ppm dose. So, I am in a fix. what do I do?

I believe 1.5 ppm used to be considered the absolute minimum dose, but you always need to account for testing errors and tester accuracy, and any day to day fluctuations in copper levels.

I also don't really understand the distinction between "preventative" (1.5ppm) and "treatment" (2-2.5ppm) levels in that leaflet you linked. There's no reliable way to know whether a fish is carrying ich, so what exactly is the "preventative" dose supposed to prevent? It might suppress the parasite without completely eradicating it, but not fully eliminate it...

From what I understand, fish disease experts generally agree that copper should be kept above 2 ppm at all times to reliably eliminate ich, so I'd aim for 2.25 ppm to give yourself some room for error. Even the leaflet lists 2-2.5 ppm as the therapeutic range for treatment, which is exactly what you want to achieve during quarantine.

Coppersafe and copper power takes effect at 2.0 and I would noy recommend 1.5ppm as a level. Maximum is 2.5ppm and dosed for a full 30 days

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

As said, Copper Power needs to be dosed at 2.25 ppm, giving some leeway of 0.25 ppm higher or lower. Best way to test is with the Hanna HR meter.

This product is a copy of Coppersafe, produced by Mardel back in the 1970’s. There was some original research in Great Britain that gave both companies the recipe for their products.

It’s sad, but many manufacturers don’t know a lot about their own products - all but a couple companies just make product from recipes they bought or discovered - they don’t actually have research departments.

I read your full quarantine protocol-30 days of copper followed by 3 doses of Prazi 7 days apart. Although, you have mentioned about fishes intolerant to copper treatment, still I would like to confirm whether any of my planned fishes is intolerant to copper: a pair of O.clownfishes, 1 yellow watchman goby, 1 Fire Goby/Purple flame goby,Bicolor Blenny, 1 Pajama Cardinal Fish.
