Can anyone out there tell me should I run copper power for 14 days or 30 days in my display tank for ick, when I google it, it says 14 days at 2.0 strength , its been around 2.20 for 14 days so far and three days of copper power working up to 2.20. Thanking you ahead for your advice and knowledge on this subject.

Are you certain that you have Ich? If you post some clear pics here, there's a Fish Medic team that can take a look and confirm, then recommend treatment 🙂

Don't dose copper in your display tank unless you have no inverts, and have no plans to have any inverts in the future. The copper gets into rocks and sand, and will be leached back out later, which is dangerous for invertebrates.

If you do need to use copper, it's generally suggested to go for 30 days. Here's a link to the R2R protocol that many of us here use:

Good luck!

Copper works best above 2.0 where it begins to work and recommended at 2.25 ppm for a full 30 days and in a separate tank monitored with a Hanna Brand copper test kit- No API brand.- Not display tank unless tank is intended to be a fish only tank with no coral or inverts.

Copper power needs to be dosed at 2.25 for 30 days. For some reason, they call for 2 ppm, but as people have pointed out, that’s too low for active infections. Copper doesn’t kill the resting tomont stage, so the treatment needs to be long enough for those to “age out”. That works out to be 30 days beyond when the last trophont spots were seen on the fish (or just 30 days if no active infection is seen).

Yes, 2.25 ppm for 30 days. You can treat a DT with copper. Just know that achieving this concentration in a display tank with sand and live rock will take longer than a substrate and rock free qt. It could potentially take longer to remove the copper once treatment is over because it will probably leach out of the rocks. This could be an issue if you needed to treat with another medication like prazipro.

Thank You
Can you answer one more question please, prior to me starting copper power which Im in 17 th day, prior to this I used formalin for 14 days, which cleared it up then it came back so I did 5 days again of formalin and right after that the copper treatment. I also got rid of the fish who I believe to be the main cause (character) to the ongoing problem ( bat fish). So my question is is 17 days instead of going full 30. Everyone seems to be doing good no signs of ick (2 wks) since I gave the bat fish away. Sorry to be a pest and Thanks

Do not mix formalin with copper.... one or the other
Do a good water change and run coppersafe for two more weeks at 2.25ppm and monitor level with a Hanna brand copper test kit.
