COR 20 pump Rusting from the inside out?

I have had two of these running for about 3 years, just noticed one looks like it is leaking rust all around the rear cover....It's still running fine though. The other COR 20 right next to it has no rust on it. Anyone have theirs do this?

does it clean off maybe its iron in your water accumulation on the pump body because it is essentially a magnet

That's what I thought too but the pump right next to it has nothing on it. If it was being pulled out of the water I assume it would be on both pumps. It looks like rust as it wipes right off.
Just curios if anyone else has seen this before.

the other pump is probably sealed better so it's not accumulation maybe call neptune see what they say

It's odd if the thing is corroding internally that it is still running fine. Probably have to bite the bullet and replace it before it kills stuff, I guess.

you could alway use clr to clean it then seal it with aquarium silicone

I have not seen it on either my Cor 15 or 20. Have had them since launch. I clean them at least every 6 months which gives me time to assess them. I have higher nutrients than most and strombus grazer snails which can get pulled in due to their size regardless of what intake cover I use.

I would reach out to Neptune first. Send them a ticket to get into their queue and see what they say. Second, I would take it off line and examine it. Give you an opportunity to inspect and clean. The only concern I have here is if you don't have a back up (spare or similar Cor used for skimmer or such) that if it is damaged, or does not start, you are hard down.

I personally keep a spare for this reason. Emergencies and maintenance but understand not everyone does. Neptune also sells spare blocks. When you open the ticket you can ask about that.

I would never leave that in my tank, if that is in fact rust it will almost certainly be leaching unwanted heavy metals in your tank.

Two is good.

With regards to Neptune that was not my point, sorry for not being clear. Two fold. One, to ask if they have seen it before or report after you take a look. Information sharing both ways. Second, is that maybe you can buy a new block and fix it.

I had a strombus snail get stuck in my skimmers venturi and I thought the pump failed. Opened a ticket, worked through a few things, still the issue. I was able to buy a new block since we confirmed the driver was fine. Replaced it, same issue. Then the light bulb went on and we checked the skimmer. Unlodged the snail and problem solved.

Kept the spare block for maintenance since it is the same for both the Cor 15 and 20.
