Coral growth and shading

I have a trumpet coral that is doing well and it's growing new heads. The problem I"m seeing with this is that the the new heads are branching out of the main stem under the large 'adult' heads thereby not getting any light. It's like a coral living under an umbrella.

It's way too small to frag it out, so I will have to leave as it be, and I can see the small new heads turning brown - I guess there's nothing much I can do?

I'm amazed how new growth happens when otherwise the lighting conditions don't appear favorable to be sprouting new heads.

Sounds like good news. Growth is a great thing. You could always try more lighting to reduce shadows. Any pictures would help.
