Can anyone tell me exactly what this is? During the day it is a hard, little, red blob. It has PE at night, tripling in size. Polyps are white/pale pink.

Some type of nonphotosynthetic coral. Chilli coral or dendronepthea/carnation coral maybe.

Thanks. I was thinking chili coral too. Looking at the info linked by Reefing Madness, it is for experts only. Well, it's in my tank (no expert). I'll read up on it and try to take care of it. Wish me luck!
