Hello folks,

I’m hoping to get an ID on this coral. It was sold as a ‘lobophyllia/symphyllia’, but looks very different than most of the specimens I’ve seen labeled as such. It seems to be doing well in my tank, but I’d like to learn more about caring for it. Any care tips are appreciated.

Thanks!

Looks like: A solitary, disc-shaped coral with the bold green radiating stripes, sitting flat on the sand.

Likely ID: type of maze brain coral, likely a Platygyra

Was looking for one at a few lfs near me and could get ahold of it. Jealous
Seems to be the right answer. I saw that one on tidal gardens, really incredible specimen. I got mine from coral.com, pretty reasonably priced on sale and they were very diligent in packing.

that’s a Symphyllia coral , low light moderate flow, very hungry coral always ready to eat and aggressive it will almost always win the battle, the deep groves you see are used to trap particles of food and it’s a slow grower.

Platygyra.
not Platygyra, notice the valley size and fleshiness of the coenosarc

Symphyllia were reclassified to Lobophyllia ~2016
