Anyone know or have any experience with these suddenly shrinking and staying that way for a few days?

Here's on of my wellso's! The last pic it's was trying to eat a piece of silverside. Had to cover it with a glass bowl to keep my snails from snatching up the food! Lol

Mine:

This was sold to me as a symphyllia, I'm not sure if it is in the same family:

The second picture looks like a symphyllia, more in lobo family. The do look like a welso at quick glance.

I have a question about my brain coral. It's feeder tentacles used to come out everyday. Now I haven't seen them come out in quite a while now. It's still doing very well, inflating and growing, I just haven't seen it eat. Any help would be great.

It sends tentacles out to capture food. When you first got it was not use to your feeding cycle. Now it may have found out there is nothing in the water column. If it is not hungry it will not send them out either. As long as it eats when you drop a piece of whatever into it. It is fine if it will not eat at all there may be issues.

Hey thanks. I did stop adding phyto to my tank maybe that's when it stopped feeding as well

I don't think that is it. To met knowledge they (like most photosynthetic corals) do not feed on phyto. Try cutting a 2 liter soda bottle in half and lowering it over the coral. Then spot feed some mysis, oyster eggs, or other "meaty" food and see if it extends its tentacles. Have you changed your lights lately? I was playing with my Maxspect Razor LED and went from 85% to 92% and it got really stressed from that subtle change, as did a Aussie Lobo.

I have a welso brain too that has never extended its tentacles very much. Its a year old though and always looks healthy. Its on the sand of my 22" deep tank and I have T5s.
