I tend to give it even more attention than only flow and lighting. Corals can acclimate to a bit more or less flow and light if acclimated slowly.
Some things I consider would be color and growth shape and how they will look when fully grown and the contrast they give/get from corals around them as well as how they'll complement the final look I want for the tank.
I start the coral lower in the tank and slowly move up to more light and more flow and if the coral does well in the position I have in mind then fine if not I'll move to a different location based on above criteria.

I have found that a lot of different corals can adapt to a lot of different conditions. The key is to start all coral low and acclimate them to the spots you would like to place them in.

I leave them on plugs a lot of the time then glue. You don’t have to rip them off the plug and it leaves more room for base to grow
