I just ran out of my coral pro salt (black bucket) and I was thinking on making the switch to Red Sea salt mix (blue bucket). I have a mixture of LPS/softies & rock flower anemone. Is spending the extra bucks on the black bucket worth it ?

When it comes to salt, I just go for the cheapest. Well not exactly, I just follow the following priority bracket

1. Price

2. Closest to target parameters (mostly Alk)

3. Availability

For me, that is instant ocean reef crystals. I would go for the regular instant ocean but the alk is too high

Instant ocean gets bonus points from 1 and 3 since it’s the most popular brand, it’s available at big brand stores like petco, chewy, amazon, meaning you can get some nice deals

That’s a fair point. The main reason why I do like the black bucket is because of the high ALK and I don’t need to does anything. I was also thinking of switching to instant ocean reef crystal as it’s very accessible to me.

My partner uses instant reef crystals and her aquarium is thriving way better than mine at times haha . Maybe I’m just overthinking this while salt thing

If you want high alk, instant ocean regular mixes at 11.11 vs the red sea’s 10.18.

I myself appreciate reef crystal’s 9.4

But yea, most people overthink salt. There is no best salt. It’s on a case by case basis and 99% of the salt content is the same between all companies. Just go for the cheapest
