Went down to lfs, purchased this maybe an hour ago, dipped in coral rx for 10 minutes and acclimated temp while doing so. Then straight in the tank. This is my first pectinia. Is it dying or expelling mucus or something?

Nitrate - 7.5
phos - .04
salinity - 35ppt
alk - 8.5dkh
cal - 450
ph 8.1

Are you sure you didn't put acid in your coralrx bottle :) That doesn't look too good.

Yeah, I agree. I am at a bit of a loss on this one. Everything else in the tank is fine. Dipped an elegance alongside it that is opening up just fine it seems.

How long did you temp acclimate for? Might of just been too much stress on it with dip and lengthy temp acclimation. I'd skip the temp acclimations and just get the coral in the tank after the dip.

I just throw a tiny little heater in the 5g bucket during the dip. I only live a couple of minutes from the lfs so the temp variation should be as minimal as it can be.

I used seachem dip and it came out fine. Yours looks like a goner. How much did you spend on yours?

Was the dip diluted to the recommended level or used at a higher strength? I agree it doesn't look good. The tissue looks like it's melting away.

I previously had many losses after dipping regardless of brand or reducing. I just get the frags straight into a quarantine system. Let it settle for several days to a week and then dip. I’ve had zero losses since. We’re told to drip and dip by EVERYONE! Reef Builders had a spot on how he does it, and it works great! I think the Beefy Dudes do it the same,

Ok, i have mixed felling about this. ive used coral rx on all my corals since i started my build following the instructions on the bottle and out of all my corals the one that reacted the worst to it was a green birds nest colony.
When i bought it, it was full and fluffy but once i dipped it for the 15 min that the bottle instructed,it RTN and with in a few days it was completely gone.
On my other corals it wasn't that bad so thats why i have mixed feeling about it.

Yep. I've used it on the rest of my corals as well without any issue.

LFS response -

I assume the dip did not agree with him, as that is one of the most extreme reactions I have seen. Looks like the flesh is dissolving as if it was stung bad by another coral or had been dipped in freshwater. It would have had to be upside down on that elegance for 30 minutes to cause destruction like that. I rarely dip corals so this isn't something I have seen personally. I'm not sure it can be saved because I don't see any good spots left on the thing. You can siphon off the decay and wait but looks like an uphill battle.

Same thing happened to my candy cane coral. Got the coral from my LFS, dipped in freshwater and then coral rx. It lost most of its tissue and color. It rubbed off onto my finger and rocks. It regain most of its tissue back and the color is starting to come back.
