There's going to be a coral show near me this weekend. I want to go because I've never been to one. My LFS advised me to not buy anything there, but he's in the business of taking my money I mean selling coral.
I see his point, though, the coral do travel from across the country and honestly you don't know what traveled with it.
What precaution do you take when buy from shows? Do you buy from shows? I'm very picky about where I get my animals for my aquarium and I quarantine or dip them depending on if its a fish or coral.

People buy at shows all the time, that LFS owner just wants you buying from them only 🙃

Go to the show, have fun, and buy what you like. Many bring a little insulated backpack or cooler to bring the frags home in.

Good luck!

Even if I don't see anything I want I want to look and have fun. Fish nerds like to talk

Can't believe the local store said that. Most local stores in my area like to see the shows and usually are vendors too.
Take at least a six pack cooler to hold and carry your purchases.

Oh and depending on the weather and length of time at the show and driving home, a heat pack taped to the lid might not hurt. I always made sure I had one.

Next time I go I'll bring a cooler. I went with the idea of not buying anything. I bought blastos, a rfa and a gold hammer. It's been a week and everything is happy.

Lol, where do you think all his stock comes from?

Buy where you want, stop listening to that man because he only wants your money and im sure you have given him plenty of it.

Of course the owner of the lfs I frequent most would say don't buy any where else. I took him with a grain of salt.

I would avoid "high risk" corals aka montipora(nudis are rampant at coral shows. You wont see them until you're infested AND it takes a very long time to rid yourself of them), "wild" zoanthids, and SPS that dont have full polyp extension. If you can QT your corals, I wouldnt be concerned
