Hey y’all just got this Coral not sure fully what it is. However it looks like it’s giving off a coat? Is it dying?

That is a leptastrea, the "coat" is either mucus from moving it or waste, though probably mucus from the stress of moving, should be fine. also If it's mounted sideways I'd recommend putting it right side up on a rock

I appreciate the advice but why do you recommend that to be face up rather then sideways?

So they can get light, as when they open up, the polyps above will shade out the polyps below. If you want a good coral that can be mounted sideways, the SPS like montipora, leptoseris, cyphastrea ect would be better alternatives, and GSP if you're okay with your entire glass being covered in it
