Hi guys. I want to go from bare bottom to black sand with a medium sized grain to avoid it being blown around the tank. I heard that since it won't move there's a big chance coralline algae will grow on it. Obviously, I don't want that. If I vacuum the sand bed every week, will it prevent the coralline algae growth on my sand?

Keep in mind that black sand can contain magnetic particles which can stick to scrapers, etc. With a good cleaning crew it's doubtful you'll get coralline algae growing on it.

Get yourself a tuxedo urchin with the sand. But vacuuming the sand bed regularly ie. When you're doing water changes should prevent it

Ok thanks! Yea I've heard about the magnetic situation. I have a long pole scrapper to use for the glass. I have 7 snails. Maybe I add a few more
