My 75 gallon tank has been cycled about 2 months now. I have dry rock all in my tank and I added 1 live rock with full PURPLE coverage. Every frag I have added had and still has PURPLE coralline on it. But I am starting to see RED spots on my dry rock. Is the red algae going to turn purple? Or stay red?

(it is not cyano)

Is it hard algae like the purple coralline? There is red coralline algae out there, so it could stay that way. However, If it’s not hard and you can blow it off I’d suspect it’s Cyano.

I don’t want red coralline. Is there a way to make the purple out compete it?

What does the algae look like? More of a slime or has some structure to it? What are nitrates and phosphates running at? I have heard of red ulva and such. A picture oils be helpful as well. If it has a slimy or filmy texture could be cyano which can be treated simply with chemiclean dose/ siphoning it out/ UV sterilizer.

I would say no. It’s made of the same stuff as the purple, so what makes one grow is going to make the other grow. Only real way would be to remove the rock.

Short of relentlessly scraping off the red every time it appears, to try to let the purple outcompete it somewhat, no. It does seem to be somewhat slower-growing than the purple stuff, though, at least from what I've seen.
