Ive recently looked into the CO2 scrubbers for raising pH in the aquarium. Coralvue makes a reasonable little unit, which comes with CO2 media. However, im a bit confused. All the soda lime Ive seen (in the veterinary field) and available from other aquarium manufacturers turns from white to violet when exhausted. However, the Coralvue media turns from violet to white (per the packaging). When you look it up on their website, at https://www.coralvue.com/icecap-color-changing-co2-absorbent-media-1kg, it says both (pink to white, and white to pink). Did Coralvue engineer a media that has opposite color change (for no real reason), or are they just mistaken, and potentially selling exhausted media?

Don't buy the aquarium brands. If you price what it costs to buy it bulk from medical suppliers or elsewhere and factor in shipping, the bulk reef supply stuff is the best bet last I checked.

? Im a little confused by your response. You say to not buy the aquarium branded ones, and then suggest buying the Bulk Reef Supply brand?

In my case, I'd be buying the reactor, not the media per se, but the media is included. Im just curious if the media is somehow differnt, and usable, or if its not.

Bulk reef supply just repackages the medical grade stuff and they're the only ones with reasonable prices. SO, yes, don't buy the aquarium brand stuff (like Ice Cap), except for BRS.

Anyway, I don't know anything about the Ice Cap media other than it's really expensive. But, the BRS stuff turns from white to a very pale purple when it's exhausted.

Ah, I see what youre saying now. That being said, unless someone can tell me otherwise, I'd venture to say that every soda lime product is repurposed from medical supply. I did a little more research, and it turns out there is, in fact, 2 varieties of soda lime with coloration changes. The ethyl violet indicator turns from white to purple, while the phenolphthalein indicator does turn from pink to white. Id guess that Ice cap just switched to the phenolphthalein type.
It doesnt seem that out of line in price, either. 2.2 Pounds of CV media is just over $14, while 7.5 pounds of BRS media is $37. Yeah, the CV ius more expensive, but just barely. Im not suggesting any one over the other. Hell, in the future, I'll just get the Jorvet stuff from the veterinary supplier I use, but I just was curious if the included stuff was functional, which it turns out it is, I guess.
