I am still in the process of setting up my tank...just seen this chip on the corner of my sump. No idea how or when it happened. Literally sick to my stomach. Do you think I can silicone some glass to the outside and reinforce it?

Chip is near the bottom corner

hmmmm i dont know man...... how much are your floors and furniture worth..... i would just get another one its not worth the risk. perfect time to look into filtration upgrades like a new skimmer if you ever wanted one that needed a bigger compartment.

Siliconing a glass panel over the chip certainly wouldn’t hurt but I would think because of the small volume of water being held in that last chamber the chip shouldn’t be a issue structurally wise or be an issue unless it’s actually leaking water.

Scalloped chips like that are not usually a problem because the initial crack has run its course. just make sure there are no micro fissures extending from the initial impact site. Weakening of the pane is not really an issue in that location but a tiny crack will be. if you want some extra security apply some thin cyanoacrylate (super glue) Hobby town has the really thin stuff. Then after that dries slap a glob of silicone on to cover the sharp edge.
The thin Cyanoacrylate will wick into any microfissures and inhibit any spreading. Microfissures (nearly invisible cracks that radiate out from an impact) are not likely in that type of chip.
