Cracked Aquarium

So, I was super excited about a 120 I got for a good deal-2 overflows, PVC, sump, skimmer, rock, the works. I was waiting to move into our new home to set it up, and while DOING SO---decided it would be a great idea to break the new tank. It's a nasty 1 inch tall shatter in a corner, which also goes from front to back of the seam. It's in the 6 foot long front glass too, not one of the side panels. No way to just patch it and not give me nightmares at night. Has anyone had experience with replacing a panel of glass in their aquarium? Especially around the northern virginia/richmond area? Is it cost effective? Or may I as well start over and get a new tank?

If there's no hope, any suggestions on aquariums on sale around 120~ would be appreciated.

So sorry that happened! I can imagine that is very frustrating. It sounds like replacement would be the best option, but could you post a picture just in case?
Have you checked out the WAMAS reef club? We just moved from VA and were members of the club...lots of awesome people willing to help out.

What's the status of WAMAS now? I would like to get involved in a local club. Had a 20 set up for a little over year now, this tank was going to be my next step up :P

i used to build tanks. unless the panel is replaced by a professional, i would say get a new tank.

I definitely would not tackle this by myself. I've reseamed tanks and am pretty handy, but just the sheer weight and size of this piece of glass would be too much for me to want to handle myself.

Still going strong...over 600 paid members. Always have great speakers and frags for sale at the meetings.

I wasn't super clear in my post either, I was looking more for experience in the nova/dc/richmond area with any companies that can repair glass aquariums. Ran across one in Richmond I'm checking into. Any glass shops anyone has worked with?

I've seen tanks operate with chips like that for years. Have you water tested it? (outside please!)

+1 for fill test, that might not even be a problem, besides aesthetics

I’m also not so sure that will be a issue for you.. from the picture it looks like there is a lot of glass left, maybe you can get it checked out by a professional. I’ll be going to my LFS tomorrow (capital aquarium) they do lots of custom reef installations I’ll ask them about repair services around northern Va.. be sure to check out WAMAS it covers a big area including Washington, Virginia, Maryland and has a lot of members many states away.. meeting place rotates the last one was in nova
