Hello guys this is CRAZY
I have mandarin fish that ive added him a months ago, now he is established in my tank. Yesterday i added blue tang and he observing the mandarin (chilling in bottom tank), 1 sec later i saw it with my own eyes that blue tang just ATE my back fin mandarin to half, is this normal? How could this happen, even my sailfintang (jerk and bully) didnt bother the mandarin. The blue tang only chase the mandarin if he sees it, is he thinking mandarin back fin as his food? The blue tang didnt even bother the other fish, only mandarin. This is worse than powder blue tang cause i dont see its as bullying, rather he sees my mandarin straight as FOOD. He literally ate my mandarin's fin in his first day introduced in my tank. Anyone experienced this cruelity?

It probably mistook the gentle Mandy for a dangerous grouper and wanted to see the pecking order early?

I have seen turf battles between new and old fishes where lots of tail finnage was orally extracted as more aggressive fishes introduce themselves to their new tank mates. Made me turn my UV on recently so that I am afraid to add any more fishes into the agro ecosystem. The fish must feel crowded and not eager to have another cellmate?

Many Tangs are known bullies

At least purple really only wanted to pick on my Tomini and he was big enough to fight back

But I still occasionally see fin damage when those two tussle

I just uploaded the video, is this considered a bully or a murder?

Weird the mandarin didn’t try to get away

But your tank doesn’t look to have many hiding spots and this may be part of the problem
Maybe because the first day his fin got nipped into half? (thursday), he was active before, i have rockworks in left for hiding spot. Even if i have good rockworks i dont want mandarin living scared for his life. I want mandarin again but dont want blue tang sees him as a food

How big is your tank?

You only have a small section for the fish to hide in? You would need more than that. Caves in various places for the fish to dart into.

But no I wouldn’t add another one.

You could try with an acclimation box and see have the tang reacts…..

You could also make sure to put out nori before you leave

But tangs be tangs

Should I
