Upgrading/Condensing
combining 60G cube + 40 gallon carpet tank (bypassing the 90G cube future build)
This will be changing my freshwater discus tank into my “new” saltwater and selling everything else to just focus on the one

Dimensions: 56l x 33w x 30h

Equipment:

Kessil AP700
2x Gyre XF350
HOB skimmer

I have looked at the coverage area of the kessils and PAR stats and sketched out a rough idea for layout

I am trying to source some Paleobond for aquascaping

3-4” sand bed

60 gallon cube will remain Macroalgae tank/ quarantine tank

Thanks - it’s a bit of a challenge with the deep tank . But in trying to keep the carpet I know I have one more upgrade in my future next tank will be wide and shallow !

Keep us updated!

I am so excited - just waiting for the rest of the sand to arrive - 10 20lb bags , 5 Fiji pink , 5 special grade

tonight I got my aquascape done and would love to hear what you all think !

I used the reefcrest aqua weld and honestly I was quite surprised at how not good it was for the following reasons .
- it requires absolutely scalding/fresh out the kettle water to melt (yes I used a fork to get it out the water) the second the water cools even a tiny bit it starts to harde
- like a dummy I followed the directions and tried to melt all the beads at once thus creating one giant hard blob
-it starts to harden so fast (this is good and bad) no time to second guess
- Biggest complaint is how hot the water needs to be to keep it melty

On to my aquascape

so I built this on the floor Welding the bottom right square together before realizing I would need to lift the entire thing to get it in the tank - doh!

but this was what I came up with and using my sketch as a guide I just went for it.

here is how I theoretically think it will look

two gyres one front left, one back right .
The beautiful green squiggle is where I am hoping my carpet decides to position itself

Update for end of June

the tank got diatoms and bad , the sand bed had a thick hard layer on the top - I thought all my zoas would be smothered. Luckily It was super quick to go away once I introduced a small clean up crew

cerith , nassarius , astrea and margarita snails (roughly 30 snails)

with in days , cleared up
Here is the tank with no lights on .

added my hammer, frogspawn, lithophyllon , Favia , and acan, and some chalices

everyone is doing good so far !
