Using what I have gathered from the success of other reefers who share their findings, I designed and built this sump.

You put a lot of thought into that sump and it looks really good. As a JBJ 28g cube owner I dream of a sump that would fit into the stand. My not so creative work around was get a bigger tank. It's still being built but at least I have sump room now.

If I could ask a design question, why did you go with glass over acrylic for a sump? For 17g the acrylic doesn't have to be more than 3/16 - 1/4" (I think) not to mention the amount of internal reinforcement you get from all the walls. Just feels like a headache to me.

Tank looks great btw.

Thank you.

I used glass because I don't have the ability to perfectly cut acrylic with square enough edges to use the acrylic glue, and silicone produces a weak connection on acrylic. So glass was easier and more reliable.
It will also never sag jeopardizing the walls of my tank stand. , which could be an issue over time with acrylic.

I'm really happy with the way it came out. Tomorrow night I can start testing it.

Ahh makes perfect sense. Sorry, I've been around power tools all my life and sometimes just assume.

Thanks for clarifying.

If it had been stainless sheets, I could have dealt with that in my shop lol, but would have never gotten smooth edges on acrylic.
Only cost me $100 in glass.

These are the pieces you need. I ended up removing the final bubble wall and ramp. made it much quieter. It will all fall together in dimensions if you build the box, then start at the right front wall.
