Damaged Setosa

I have a wonderful piece of Setosa that has phenomenal color and is growing fast.

I recently had an Acro frag fall and lay on it in the middle of the night... no idea how long but there was some damage to both frags. I took this picture an hour after I took the Acro off.

Will it grow back it’s tissue in those spots? It is looking pretty bald. I’m bummed because I loved its growth pattern and color. Hopefully it will be ok!

I'm no expert but I have a Setosa just like that and it was damaged a bit when I got it as a frag. Mine never grew the damaged flesh back but it is growing like a weed.

Shoot. It looked so awesome and uniform and now it has holes... it is still growing despite the damage. Just wish it could grow back over itself...

Unless a setosa grows differently than other sps, it should grow over that spot. I accidentally scrap tissue off of my sps sometimes. It recovers pretty quickly

It should be just fine. If every thing is growing well in the tank you’re fine.

Good to hear. I do actually see some lighter skin starting to form around the holes so it may be working on it already!

I have one that grew from a 1 inch frag in around 1.5 years. From experience with other corals falling on it always suffers damage from the other corals, so I've concluded it is very sensitive. When this happen the setosa always bares the brunt of the warfare and where it was touched it dies in those spots. Luckily it grows back rather quickly over the dead spots. Usually a little algae grows at first on the dead spots then the coral itself just heals itself usually within a couple weeks.

Good to hear more experience of it healing.

I accidentally dragged a little off cleaning the tank once and it healed in about a week, but I wasn’t sure if it would be the same in the middle of the coral.

I would say it is 75% healed now and filling in the holes nicely!
