My partner got this little guy for me as a surprise tonight. The damsel was simply listed as "assorted," so he couldn't tell me what it is.

Since putting the fish into the tank the charcoal part of the large band has become white. He also has a white band between the eyes. Unfortunately, I cannot capture a new photo since he's the size of a quarter (but VERY fiery LOL) and zooming all over the place. He resembles a four stripe damselfish, but is missing the stripe I circled in the image taken off of Google. Is it possible that's what he is?

Maybe a Juvenile White tail?
He's very similar but missing one of the body stripes (the one across the head). I guess it's possible he's just missing a stripe or is a hybrid that caused the lapse in stripes?

I think so too! The only thing that's making me doubt it is the missing stripe. All of the images I see, there are two large white stripes on the body, but he only has the one.
The face and tail stripe does count as a stripe

This part looks like it could fade over time which is why I'm thinking juvenile White Tail.

The top one is a stripped damsel adult, maybe a juvenile?

Entirely possible it will fade out! He's so small, I'm sure he can change drastically in the coming months.

He has the same body shape as the striped damsel. Really all of the attributes are the same besides the current lack of the fourth white band I'm seeing in every other photo of that type of damsel.

If top pic, may be ringtail damsel or Stegastes leucorus

I don’t know but this doesn’t seem to be one of the better Damselfish species. I would trade for an Azure, Springer’s, Talbot’s or Arnazae (Azure but with yellow fins instead of a yellow belly), or one of the Peacock Damsels from Biota.

You may find CB Azures or Talbot’s (both from ORA).
