I have a couple damsels that I threw in my tank as my focus was SPS and a few small fish but I have noticed lately that they are nipping at my acros polyps one is a yellow damsel and the other is a bluefin damsel.I have never heard of damsels nipping at coral and they are well fed twice a day. There is no way I am getting them outta my tank, any ideas on what I should do and has anybody else had damsels that nip? When I see them doing this I just wanna grab them by the fin and tell them "no,bad little fishy".

Many fish nip at SPS polyps. It's the fish that "eat" SPS polyps that you need to be concerned about. The damsels may cause some polyps to retreat but it should not damage the coral at all. Many folks keep angels in their SPS dominated tanks and they "could" cause much more damage to SPS polyps. They are "nippers" too but most will tell you that it does not noticeable damage to the coral. It happens on the reef too....

I feel for you and those acros. The acros still have pe?
They do still extend but I just didnt like when I saw the yellow damsel nip at my red planet and spit out a piece of the polyp and then suck it back down.I think I would have been ok with it if he spit it out and just let it go but he spit it out then actually finished it off.

Some good info here soccerbag.thanks:)

Some Damsels in the reef suck out SPS polyps to encourage algal growth via die off to feed on.
