I see people tend to put a gate valve on there tanks. Would this be the case for this tank or is the valve ok as standard ?

Nice! The little Fluval Evo 13.5 is where I started as well! I've been running my 13.5 for a little over a year and a half, and just bought my upgrade. Enjoy the journey! Looks like you are off to a good start...

Cool what have you upgraded to ? Yeah the Fluval Evo 13.5 is a great little tank. Have you shut the Evo down now ?

I bought a Red Sea Reefer 350 and am currently waiting to get the interior of our house paint finished, then I'll start the build. Hoping for only a few more weeks.

I still have my Evo running, and plan to keep it at least for now, but I will have to move it because right now it sits where my 350 is going to go. I love that little tank and it has helped teach me so much! Once I have the RSR 350 completely cycled and running, I may reevaluate whether or not I want to keep the Evo as a frag tank, small QT tank, or just take it down. Right now I'd like to think I'm going to keep it up as a small frag tank of some sort.

Finally the tank has arrived !! All unpacked and levelled off. Still waiting on most of my equipment which is being held up due to COVID and BREXIT so still a while a to wait before I get it wet, as also still need to sort my aquascape once my rock arrive.

Seeing this tank compared to my little Fluval is such a big difference and has kinder got me feeling a little anxious as to water volume and leaks and just the thought of it all over the floor especially with it being my first tank with a sump. Touch wood all goes to plan when the intial setup is done.

is there any do’s and dont’s for first setting up a tank or even when the tank is running to help prevent this from happening ? For example do you use anything to secure the feed hose onto the pump or just push it on. Also I have the dd auto top which is supposed to have fail safe to prevent flooding I guess. Have you guys even had a sensor fail which has caused your auto top up to just keep pushing water into your tank therefore causing it to flood ?

Thanks in advance I appreciate all comments and even advice.

Equipment started turning up now, all that’s left is my two 300w heaters then my lights which are still going to be 3-4 weeks. Dry rock also came today so tonight I have had abit of a mess about to try and make some sort of aqua scape (which isn’t easy) but here is what I have come up with let me know your thoughts.

Also installed my pump, skimmer, reactor and ATO just my heaters and lights when they arrive. Going to leave the Nero 5 till I put my scape in to decide on where to put it. Cable management is near impossible in just the sump alone as I have no room for a separate cabinet so just tied it all out of the way.

Tank is finally wet. Going to go the fish less approach for cycling going to add some prawns into the filter socks tomorrow then go from there. Purchased some frostbite clowns which will be the first addition to the tank once they have been through quarentine. Will post a pic tomorrow if the clowns.

Quick update - 2 days since I added the prawn and still no ammonia spike as of yet. I have now got my skimmer running just to try and get it broke in for when it’s actually needed. Added a 8x8x1 marine pure block under the skimmer also to lift it up abit and it now sits 7.5” in water. I’m going to add some bacteria when I see the ammonia spike which I will then turn my skimmer off for 48hrs. My lights finally turned up so I have fitted them and I must say I am really impressed with how they look and the control panel is pretty straight forward.
