My salinity once shot way up. I panicked and took out salt water and replaced with RO to get it back in range. I found out a while later it was actually my refractometer that was off. My mistake caused more stress and damage than it should have. Have you calibrated whatever you are using to check salinity?

Welcome to R2R! Like they said, remove a small amount of water and replace with RODI.

Hello and welcome to the channel. Like others have suggested: I would try to use a local store to check the salinity which will verify that is the correct value. if that is true, you can remove some saltwater from the tank and replace it with RO water. I would not do a lot at one time, just a little, and wait for a half-day to repeat.

Yes I recalibrate my refractometer, before the test.

Welcome to the fishy family, Debra. How did you test your salinity?When was it last calibrated? That seems rather high. My advise is to test your tester. If you are unsure how, take a sample to the LFS to verify before doing anything drastic. One of my LFS will even calibrate your refractometer for customers.
Once you know with certainty what you are dealing with, slowly adjust with water changes.

Yes I recalibrate my refractometer, before the test.

Agreeing with posts #25 & #34 about taking sample saltwater to local fish store for second opinion.

I had a defective Hanna, so even though I recalibrated, it was still wonky. Hanna gave me a replacement, but also wonky. Went with refractometer (but geesh, I really liked that Hanna visibility/readability!) If you are really at 1.06 most things likely dead/dying in your tank OR you have brand new tank. Don't do anything fast, except QUICKLY get second opinion on your salinity. Based on that, then follow appropriate direction to SLOWLY stable parameters especially if there is anything alive in your tank. GOOD LUCK!!!
