I’ve narrowed down my skimmer upgrade between the Deltec 1500i and Royal Exclusive Bubbleking Mini 180 for my Red Sea Peninsula 500.

Which one would you pick and why?

I would have but I have an 11x11 area for a skimmer and I want a space-saver skimmer

While I love my Deltec (1351ix), at that price point, I’d go with the Bubble King based on build quality. The thick cast acrylic used on the BK easily outclasses the relatively thin cheaper feel of the acrylic used on the Deltec.

Aren’t these skimmer pretty different in regards to capacity
BK MINI180 160 gallon med bio load
Deltec 255-395
Even the mini 200 is rated for only 212 med bio load

personally I would go Deltec and the extra savings will go to stocking your tank

I just re-read the post above
on my Waterbox 130.4 which is pretty close to the same size I run the Deltec 600 and it skims consistantly

why are you oversizing your skimmer so much with the Deltec 1500i

As far as capacity goes, the Deltec 1500 has a body diameter of 160mm (6.2in) whereas the BK Mini 180 has a body diameter of 200mm (7.9in). Yet the Deltec is rated for at a higher capacity!?! I dunno, seems like fuzzy math to me.

Again, I love my Deltec. It performs very well on my 57 gallon tank. My 1351 is the prior generation which is now the now refreshed as the 600. However when you’re looking at the higher price points of over $800, I would expect better build / material quality than what Deltec offers.
