Hello everyone! BRS had a sale on the Deskmate 4.8 so I jumped on it. My current setup is as follows:
-Deskmate 4.8 gallon
-10 lbs of fiji pink live sand (only used half the bag)
-stock pump (upgrading soon)
-5 lbs of rock from my lfs
-currently still have the stock filter sock (not sure as to if I should add carbon or floss etc)
-stock lighting (not using and will upgrade later)
My question is, is it okay to leave it running without adding any beneficial bacteria? My rock is dry, however, I used live sand. My goal was to go as simple as possible for this build. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing any input.

I would think you can, but you might battle a lot of uglies. It might take awhile but seems like you could. I’m no expert though!

Did you add anything for the cycle? Live sand is fine but if rock is dry still need to cycle that tank.. Don't add any kind of carbon or anything like that, yet.. I'd just cycle the tank and leave the lights off for duration.. Get a 10oz of Fritz and be golden pony boy

Edit: Also just use the socks for now.. I loathe socks but filter floss would be better but during the cycle wont be much to catch just keep er goin

Do I need to add anything besides the Fritz?

Tank just needs to cycle.. Need some kind of test kit for ammonia nitrate and nitrite.. That light it comes with is actually fine if you're doing softies.. Don't wanna go too crazy in such a small tank if this is how you're starting out.. There's plenty of ways to cycle a tank.. But fritz turbo is usually the quickest.. Browse a couple videos on cycling a tank.. Brs has some decent ones..
