Hi all! Well, I’ve had a roughly 50 gallon tank up and running for about 2 years with some unfortunate news. While away on vacation my mom was staying over watching the other animals, very kind of her. Mid morning a couple days ago the house reportedly lost power for around 30 seconds and then came back on (later to be determined Dte was messing around intentionally with the block I live on). Shortly there after i notice half the equipment isn’t working and realize it’s due to the EB832 apex controller no longer providing power (however still illuminated). I have my mom go behind the tank and swap out the energy bars / outlets. We get the equipment up and running shortly there after but between the two time points she notices, “huh, ALL of the anemones are closed up, not like they were a second ago”.
Tank is running per usual, temperature swing super minor due to quick outage time and time it took to swap out components. I check back the next two days and anemones appear to be doing worse, I have her check one of the pumps and my coral beauty angel is suctioned to it deceased, looking dead for a couple days now. From here all the anemones pass except one rock flower is fighting the good fight along with my clownfish. My best lead is some sort of electrical surge nuked everything? The change was so immediate and sudden with zero tank alteration I really have no other plausible leads. I’m thinking of putting in a grounding probe from this point forward. I’m not versed in a GCFI outlet but may look into using one?

I haven’t really had water chemistry issues, have no corals and dosing demands are very minor and no tank changes in a very long time. It’s incredibly saddening to think about all the time and love I’ve put into these animals to see them go (don’t get home till tomorrow). Best of luck out there everyone!
