need some help. we have a diamond goby that for some reason the last couple of days has stopped sifting sand. any ideas as to why? he appears to be healthy, has been in the tank for years and we haven't added any new few in 3 months. there was never an issue. tank specs are good. ALK 8.5, PH 8, cal 425. does anyone have any ideas?

i don't think so. he still comes out of his borrow. just moves around and goes back in.
Maybe it started eating your food offerings?

It's strange for a fish to lose this instinctual behavior... that's puzzling! Maybe it's old? Is it a large fish?

he is a larger fish but we got him when he was small. he has been eating food the entire time we have had him as well as sifting sanding. doesn't make any sense.

My diamond goby sifted sand nonstop when I first got him. I think after they deplete the sand bed they don't do it quite as often. Now he mostly re-landscapes his burrows. Thankfully he is a fat boy and eats any food I feed the tank.

yes he came out about 4 days later as if nothing happened. status quo and back to normal. i don't get it but glad he's back. i had purchased new frozen food. maybe it was a bad batch. i threw it out and bought new food. maybe that was it.
