The tank has been running for about a month. This past week I had this algea pop up on the sand and now the rocks. To my eye under the 20k spectrum it looks kinda red and slime-ish. I can't get a good photo with that as my phone camera just blues out. With just the white lights it looks brownish as seen in the photo below. Nitrates are 40, Phosphate is 1.0(working on it), everything else is in check.

What's your thoughts, Diatoms or Cyano?

Thanks in advance!

Diatoms...this is normal for a one month old tank. Don't do anything to attempt to get rid of them. They will go away on their own. They are part of the growth of a tank.

Also, a one month old tank shouldn't have nitrates of 40 and phosphates of 1.0 already.
It's not terrible to have this, but kind of high for a new tank with minimal inhabitants.

Best to do some water changes to get this down some AND then adjust your feeding amounts. Don't take them down to zero though.
