Diatoms id- dusty brown slime

Hi. Hard to see from photo but is this diatoms? Light brown film that covers sand during day. Blows off easy as and reappears the next day . Clears during night

Tank 18 months old, been through it plenty of times before, just never known what it is. Had the stringy bubbles before which I presumed were Dino's but never knew id of this type

Let me know your thoughts please, I'm not worried seems easy to get rid of, would be nice to have nice white sand tho

Looks like Dinos imo. I had something very similar to what you’re describing. Using a microscope would be the best way to confirm.

I ended up treating with dino x for ~1 month with great results and no impact to fish, inverts, or coral.

Ok thanks I'll take a look when I get home
I have recently done a course of flux Rx to treat green hair algae so maybe that got phosphate and nitrate too low
Do Dino's blow away easily as this stuff does?
