Diatoms on Sand bed

I read that sillicates are the issue and that I should maybe change my DI resin. My Resin isn't even 2 months old yet. I have a hard time believing it's exhausted already.

It's probably not. Many have tried lower silicates for these 'diatoms', but this did not solve the issue.

Many assume that these are diatoms, but is this really true? Only way to know for sure is to get a sample under a microscope.

I tried the same thing. I was getting 0tds water, di resin wasn't that old, but replaced it just in case. New di resin didn't help.

I tested RO/DI water, both ato and storage reservoir and DT for silicates using Salifert kit. All read 0.

Having trouble determining what kind of algae I have. I believe I have dinoflagellates its matted and hair like. I thought it was diatoms but this stuff is everywhere rocks are fine and corals are fine but the sand bed is brown. Need some help does anybody have any suggestions.

Does anyone think having too much chaeto can aid in this problem. I have read some who feel that having too much chaeto is an issue, becomes a detritus trap, and that nutrient export doesn't actually happen until you remove the chaeto.

I currently have a small laundry basket filled with chaeto. Approximately 8 -10 inches wide by 12-16 long. I am going to try cutting it in half today. rinsing the good half in rodi water and vacuuming any detritus from the basket. We'll see if that helps.

Not if the chaeto is harvested efficiently. Mine grows rather quickly so I break it by half monthly.

Does it get bubbles later in the day?
