I was at a LFS and they had a fish in their display tank. Its the not for sale tank and there appeared to be an lyretail anthias anthias with colors very similar to a purple striped dotty back. DO they exist or did I see a dottyback and just imagine the lyretail?

I've never seen or heard of one like that, but...maybe it exists?

Look up Pseudanthias cheirospilos which are nearly identical to Pseudanthias squamipinnis and can be mislabeled. Both species have the same temperament. We kept a male P. cheirospilos with a harem of female P. squamipinnis not realizing at the time that they were different species.

It looked more slender so I'm guessing it was a dottyback. It was more yellow and had a body similar to a blenny.
