Hi All,

I am battling starfish and hermit crab deaths. In additional to my ongoing temperature battles I have figured out that the most likely cause is KH being too low.

However, when I test with my "Tropic Marin" test kit, the result comes back as 4. When I test with the Sera kit, the number is 6.

Is it common to have this much discrepancy between different kits or brands? It's a mess up because now I don't trust any test results at all anymore and don't know what is true and what is not.

Anyone else dealt with similar problems?

Yes there will be discrepancies no matter what 2 test kits you choose. IMO, it is best to have a primary test that you rely on with a second one as a means of occasionally verifying the reliability of the first one. IMO, it is best to keep your alk level at around 8 or higher just to be safe and then most importantly keep it there. Consistancy is th key.
