Battling dinos for 7 months guessing procterium have been dosing phytoplankton and water glass 0.2ml per 15 gallons per day. their still here have tried Dinos with horrible results killed a ton of Zoe’s. Can anyone help id them for me they seem to be free floating st night as the sand isn’t covered so hard in them but they are attaching to my coral and smothering them the only spot with out them is where my clowns rub in the Zoe’s. Thank you for all the advice and help. Sending in my ICP test tomorrow

I think that is prorocentrum based on the little dot

A UV sterilizer may work, but you might need a short blackout to trigger it (try it without the black out first).

I battled Prorocentrum for a long time doing everything recommended. Unlike you the only thing that didn’t die was Zoas. UV didn’t do anything as they don’t go into the water column. I dosed neophos, phyto, added pods, diy coral snow, siphoned sand daily into filter socks, no water changes, dosed silicate and everything else. Got tired of it and dosed Dino-x. Dinos we’re gone in 1 dose but I did 2 more to be sure. Now the nutrients have gone through the roof and the tank is filled with GHA. Sand is pearly white though and I started adding frags back into the system.

Sorry for the late response thanks for the help everyone will try another dose of DinoX this time I might take out my corals and put them in a seperate small tank for now so I don’t kill anymore

The only thing that works for me - and it was actually quite effective - was vacuuming out the dinos through a very small micron stock daily, clipping a piece filter next to my pumps (dinos love sticking to this) that I change every day, and dosing phyto.

This way nuisance algae didn't have to overtake my tank for dinos to recede.

I have heard someone putting filter pads over the sand and then removing them each day to catch the dinos that would settle on the sand bed when the lights turn on

I would start with a conservative dose. I under dosed and had no additional losses from Dino-X. I lost thousands of dollars in coral due to dinos though.

I would add some live rock/sand/mud direct from the ocean.
Hey Matt I live 3 minutes from the gulf in Florida wondering if I can add a small clump of sand from the water at this point I just want to save my fish and shrimp which are seeming to do fine even my rescue damsel who I adopted he’s bob and has not tail

Hey I live 5, I've thought about that, but my luck it would be illegal, I just found out you can't throw back hitch hikers from Florida purchased live rock, once it goes in your tank. So I would say with it being illegal to take any rock for your tank, sand would probably be a grey area. Please let me know what you think I've always wondered about that stuff I know people use ocean water in other countries, maybe here too, but I live near Tampa Bay I wouldn't put the water near my system

Did you send in two samples of the same water....is this your first icp test? How and when was your last test if any?

I can't tell you what you should dose, I can only say I don't and have never had a ICP test, but I am familiar with how inconsistent the reviews and actions based on their results are. I would not do anything based of one single test, it would have to be consecutive undeniable results for me to add something based on the ICP test.
