Dino outbreak

I have a dino out break and at the same time I have to move my tank downstairs in my house. I will have to do a 95% water change to lighten the tank enough to move.

Question:
Can I use tap water (non RODI) to wash off my live rocks after I move the tank and refill with fresh saltwater? I am on a drilled well and sulfur is usually high in our area. Or is this not a good idea? Just trying to wash as much dinos off as I can. Thoughts?

You could fill a few buckets with some of the water you would throw out anyway and use it to rinse the rocks.

This way the rocks will never come in contact with water that might not be reef-safe and you still get the benefit of manual dinoflagellate and detritus removal.

I recently upgraded my tank and did more or less the same (I just didn't have to worry about dinos).

I'm not sure if the sudden change in temperature and osmotic pressure between tap water and tank water could cause issues for the essential bacteria cultures you definitely want to keep alive while moving the tank.

I think you would kill most of your good bacteria if you rinsed with tap water

Thanks guys, that was a thought that crossed my mind so I'm going to do the rinse with the old tank water. Fingers crossed it helps out, even it's just a little bit lol. dang dinos
