Looked at water threw the microscope at my school I matched the Dino with a multiple pics from internet. I have the ostreopsis type. Anyone know how I can get rid of them without harming the inhabitants of the tank.

Parameters are as follows

Salinity- 1.026

Phosphate- 8ppb

Alk- 7.1dkh

Cal-405ppm (adjusting to 420)

Mag- 1260ppm

Nitrate- 5ppm

Skimmer running full time changing out filter sock every day lights only run for 5 hours feed fish pellets every day and corals 1-2 a week with reef roids.
Lights and filter sock are to decrease the Dino.

Check the Dino sticky at the top of the forum.

Can you post a pic of your algae?

Do you have pics from the scope?

Was it nothing but dino cells, or a mix of "stuff"?

Also, what is your filtration like?

Any recent changes to nutrients or filtration?

How old is the system?

Particles of sand mixed in. Filtration consists of filtersock, skimmer neo therm Heater siporax and matinee pure balls and rubble rock, return pump. It’s a 20 gallon converted to AIO holds around 15-16 gallon of water. No recent changes in anything.

Those do look like dino cells...and maybe some detritus?

Compare with some of the dino photos in the sticky thread I mentioned and see if you can ID them. I'm not the greatest at ID myself and the pics might not be as clear as what you saw directly. You can also try posting those photos into the dino thread for an ID.....be get better photos if you think you can. (If not, post what you have.)

In the mean time...

It would be peculiar to have a dino bloom in a tank with positive nutrient stats like this. Do you know how consistent these numbers are from test to test?

Alk and Ca (even Mg) are both a little down while salinity is a little high...which means the numbers will drop even more if you "corrected" salinity.

420 ppm Ca is balanced at about 8 dKH alkalinity....are these being controlled by a doser?

(1.026 is fine per se....just mentioned as a reference to the other numbers)

Ostreopsis dino's seem to be perturbed by temperature and salinity factors (in addition to the usual nutrient factors).....in general, how stable are your salinity and other numbers listed above?
