I have a 90g established reef tank and I've been battling dinoflagellates for a month or more. I've been using DinoX, dosing per instructions every two days. Also dosing MetroPlex and Vibrant. Nothing is helping. I use a turkey blaster to try and keep the corals clean. Nothing changed about my tank.

Running 2 Radions, good water quality, good circulation with two MP40s.

I haven't tried hydrogen peroxide. What is the dosing instructions?

Any other suggestions? I know some also reduce lighting but I haven't done that yet either.

Hard to tell without a microscope. Ihad something similiar, tried Vibrant and at was like gas on a fire. I ended up going lights out for three days. Never tried peroxide either but swillard has a good post on here about it,Ithink the dosage is 1 mg for every 10 gallons but couldn't tell you the frequency.

What are your nitrates/phosphates? Did you make any changes right before this issue popped up? How long have you been using the Vibrant?

No I don't have a microscope. What is a peroxide test?

I've started a lights out and adding 1ml/10 gal every 12 hours.

After 3 days of lights out, the Dinos were cleared and I stopped treatments. However, they slowly started coming back. My corals are suffering, I try blowing the Dinos off ever few hours, but its a losing battle.

Any suggestions? I also tried hydrogen peroxide, 11 ml/day, but it started affecting my mushrooms, so i have stopped it.

90 gal with sump
Lights - 2 Radions at 75% for 6 hours, rev up and rev down to/from 3%
Weekly water change of 25 gals
Reef Crystals

My current parms:
Cal 425 try to keep 432, auto dosing
Alk 9.52 try to keep around 10, auto dosing
Phosphate 0.03 ppm
Nitrate 50 ppm
76 degrees F
SG 1.025

I'm adding to my tank again:
Vibrant- 1/ml per 10 gal. I'm adding 11 ml once per week.
DinoX- 5ml/26 gal. I'm adding 20 ml every 2 days
Metroplex- 1 spoon/10 gal. I'm adding 11 spoons every 2 days
NO3:pO4-X- 3ml/25 gal. I'm adding 12 ml daily

Thank you

Nitrates are high. Heavy water changes, possibly start running biopellets or dose a nitrate remover. Try not to feed as much as well as the problem will continue to be fed.

I think the nitrates are due to "old tank syndrome". I've just started the NO3PO4-X a couple of weeks ago to try to bring it down, on top of a double water change one week. Can the nitrates be the cause of Dinos though?

Are you running felt socks while the lights out?
When they are subjected to darkness the become free floating hence why we don't see them after the lights out period.
These guys are intelligent :)
