Well, I was fighting these before the big Texas freeze last year and it wiped them out (everything else too but that’s another thread). Today I see they are coming back. I knew one day it would happen. These guys are so tough man. Anyone had these particular ones? 13CA4A3F-F3C1-46A3-BE36-1AF515E99F8A.jpeg

It’s not too bad yet but I know from the past it will probably get much worse soon. My nitrate is at almost zero so I’ll bring that up a bit.

Avoid water changes, heavy feeding and run a UV sterilizer. That’ll get rid of the early ones.

Ok so progress. As many have said sure enough, getting my nitrates up started bringing my phosphate down a bit. Not going to worry yet but I have neophos ready when needed. Here is current progress on params and I noticed more Dino’s but also more diatoms so maybe they’ll lose the war if I’m lucky.

2/18/22
phos 0.37
nitrate very low (Hanna not in yet)
dosed microbactor and nitrate (20ml)

2/19/22
Nitrate 1.47
Phosphate 0.32
Dosed Bactria and 15ml neonitro

2/20/22
Nitrate 2.97
Phosphate 0.41

2/21/2022
Nitrate 2.74
Phosphate 0.23
Dosed bacteria and 3.4ml neonitro

Microbacter 7 reduces nitrates and phosphate so you are competing against yourself dosing that.

Oh shoot, ok will stick to neonitro. Thought I was dosing bacteria that would compete with Dino’s. Thanks!

I had to double dose neonitro and neophos for several weeks before I got measurable numbers. Check PNS probio at Algaebarn. It's an all natural bacteria supplement and that stuff sure cleaned up my sand and tank.

I totally agree. Depending on space requirements under their tank, for those who constantly battle algae, a UV sterilizer will nearly always solve an algae problems. Purchase a quality unit, buy the right size for the tank and set the pump for the correct flow. Here on R2R there are many threads with people who have solved their Dino problem in 24 hours with a UV. Next to a protein skimmer, the UV sterilizer is an awesome piece of equipment.

Nitrate has been helping. Seeing less and less Dino’s.. latest sample had none of the LC. I’m hoping the competitors will die down soon too.
