Dip or not to Dip

Hi all I’ve order some Macroalgae
CRYPTONEMIA and have been looking online to Dip or wash in fresh water there’s so many different posts on this subject it gets confusing so I thought I’d ask the experts on the subject any ideas on the best effective way to get rid of pests if it has any

Not only do I dip, I clean everything off corals. Sadly some things still get through. Just lost half of an 5 head torch to a flat worm the size of King Kong! It was about .5-.75” long maybe even 1” when fully stretched! No other torch lost heads or was retracted said from this one. So did an iodine dip and a secondary polyplab primer dip. Then that sucker came out.

Had another case where a hammer had some kind of worm buried into its skeleton! I don’t care for the good guys on corals. But there are the dark side ones to that want to keep out! Such as flat worms.

I have seen some crazy creatures even in macroalgae. One of the LFS’s I go to, used to have a tank just with macro, have even small crabs in it haha!

It gets bit confusing when looking online about marine care for fish corals so many people say different things that’s what I like about this forum you can believe what people tell you I’ve learnt so much from this site sometimes spends hours on here while at work

I’d avoid freshwater dipping Cryptonemia, as the sudden change can damage the macroalgae. A good rinse in clean saltwater and a careful visual inspection are usually safer. If you’re worried about pests, a short quarantine is probably the best option so you can monitor it and remove anything you find before adding it to the display.

If you do a simple rinse, it’s okay. Doing a longer bath in FW yes it can ruin macroalgae.

Yup. Has not killed any algae for me.

I see many conflicting opinions on R2R. There is more than one way to operate a reef.

Most reefers strive for SPS tanks. I prefer filter feeders and ornamental seaweeds with my soft corals
