I'm wondering if this is normal in my case, which is there's always a brown colored film that coats my glass - I clean it one day, and the next day within 24 hours it's back.

I don't even know what makes up this film, but it's annoying.

Thoughts?

I have to clean mine every day. It isn't a huge amount of buildup in 24 hours, but if I skip a day there will be noticable brown patches all over the glass.
Ok, so then I guess my case is not unique. Do you have an idea what these brown patches are? I'm very curious what it is, and fascinated how it can come back so fast.

Its algae, could be diatoms. Happens. What are your parameters? I get 3-4 days between glass cleaning.

I just assumed it was some sort of brown film algae, but I don't really know.

Keep cleaning it every day though. It comes off easy in a day, but the areas where my magnetic scrubber can't reach get very hard to clean off in just a few days. Even a scrubby pad won't take it off without some elbow grease.

I've been having to replace the filter sock every few days because if I don't, it messes up with the water levels and throws of the ATO as the sock impedes water flow resulting in less water in the sump

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
