Disintegrating Toadstool?

Okay so, all my other corals are doing great. I’ve had the toadstool for about a month but it has never opened up completely. It started opening up more and more the first couple weeks than it just shrunk, flopped over and never stood up again. Now the stem is just disintegrating. It doesn’t feel soft it still has that leather texture but it’s definitely disappearing. I am running carbon and will take it out if it’s a goner but curious if it savable or can I frag it somehow and see if grows back.

Woke up to this! I moved it up a bit higher than I’ve had it this far. Granted I had it higher flow than this for a bit of time. It has just always flopped away from the flow. I’m not sure if it just wants to come off its Little Rock or what is going on. The stem yesterday was soft and when I touched it it all just fell apart. Would it be a crazy idea to cut it above the soft stuff and tie back down to the rock? I’m at a loss I thought these things were bulletproof.

I would just chop off the crown. Frag in a separate container. Run some new charcoal. You can literally get a needle and string and tie it to a piece of rubble.

Sorry, I meant to update. I ended up fragging the cap. I took three frags off of it. They are all just hanging out on the sand bed now hoping they’ll attach. The leather smelled pretty bad when cutting it. Some of the frags looks like they have areas that are still soft which is interesting since they weren’t soft when I fragged them. Time will tell. I’ve been switching my carbon out every three days or so just to be sure. It definitely effecting some of my zoas but they look like they’ll recover. Very interesting that this is the one coral I’ve had the most issues with in this tank but not the end of the world either, actually I take that back I had a wild goni frag that just melted overnight. :( I’ll let ya know if they frags work out or not.

I also cut all the Mushroom off and kept anything solid feeling
Fast-forward-the cap has grown a new stock, and looking better than ever, and the base sprouted seven babies they have now attached to frog plugs
You can do this just keep trying!!!!

Unfortunately they all just kept disintegrating. I wish I knew what went wrong with it. It was something I received from an online shop so not sure if it just couldn’t recover from the stress. I’ve removed them all from the tank at this point. It was making my nitrates shoot up.

Oh dang, sorry to hear that. Do not give up though, toadstools are very rewarding when they thrive and grow. Maybe try a new shop/vendor in a few weeks.

Yeah my lfs’ toadstool has been dropping babies and I plan on grabbing one of those soon.my daughter loves the toadstools so I have to get one in her tank!

Only thing I can come up with. First full loss for the tank it’s a bummer but glad it wasn’t something else. I’ll get another soon!
