Hello all!
Starting my first tanks thread,
I kept some freshwater cichlids years back before joining the army and had to break them all down.. came across an old tank in my garage a little over a year ago and got the itch to come back to the hobby except this time to saltwater!
Tank is about 1 year and 3 months old.. gone through some changes with the aquascape recently to accommodate more coral as I originally didn’t keep very many as I wanted the tank to mature. Will soon be setting up a water box Infinia reef 150.4 whenever it finally arrives.. the anticipation has been killing me.
My setup is:
15 Gallon HelloReef Tank
Ai Nero 3 Powerhead
Sicce syncra 1.0 Return pump
Upgraded dual head RFG heads
IceCap K1 Nano Skimmer
Tunze Osmolator ATO
Ecotech Versa dosing pump
Ai Prime 16HD w/ Flex arm
(Please excuse my mess of cords lol)
For filtration I chose to remove the big coarse sponges that the tank had come with and only use the filter socks and skimmer along with a polyp labs Genesis rock Ceramic brick and dose Microbacter 7 regularly.. as far as my dosing situation goes I only recently added the single Versa pump to dose Tropic Marin AFR, still trying to get the dosage right but it seems tricky as the consumption of alk varies and the tank really doesn’t use that much. Maybe .5 Dkh a week.. .5ml daily has been able to keep the alk within 8.0-8.5 although I’m trying to stabilize it a tad more if possible.
Parameters at time of posting:
Nitrate: 6.7
phosphate: 1.0
Alk: 8.5
Salinity: 1.026 SG
PH: 8.5
Temp: 76-78
Inhabitants are:
2 Mocha storm Ocellaris
2 Nassarius snails
2 Astrea snails
1 Conch
3 Blue leg hermits
1 Micro Brittle star (that I am aware of)
Was feeding them frozen mysis and pellets from Sustainable aquatics for the first year then switched the pellets to TDO Chromaboost the last few months and have noticed a big difference and the clowns absolutely love the TDO maybe even more than the mysis haha.
Coral:
Holy Grail Micromussa
Ruby Rainbow Micro Acan
Unknown Favia
Taste the rainbow Chalice
Neon Green Toadstool Leather
Ultra Trachy
Blue raven Blastomussa Merletti
Monsters Inc. Blastomussa Merletti
Gold Ring Pink Blastomussa Welsi
Hyper Jubilee Zoanthids
OG Wolverine Zoanthids
Pink Diamond Zoanthids
Pink Candy Apple Zoanthids
Super Girl Zoanthids
Golden eye Zoanthids
Goblins on fire Zoanthids
Green star polyps
A lot of these corals have been added within the last 2 months so they are still just frags mostly. Looking forward to the grow out. Recently switched from reef roids to Benereef at the suggestion of a fellow R2R member and the response from the corals has been wonderful, and my phosphates haven’t spiked as much if at all than I would have with reef roids.. still using the polyp booster from polyp labs in conjunction however. Will spot feed a mixture of phyto, benereef and mysis 2-3 times a week.
